Friendly Local Gaming Shops

The Cardiff community has seen a recent boost with the number of games shops increasing in 2009. Whether you're new to Cardiff or have been living here for years, this guide to both gaming shops and shops of interest, may be of use to you. If you know of any shops that are not included here, please let us know and we can add it.

  • Cardiff Games - 8 Duke Street Arcade - Selling all forms of gaming from traditional board games, contemporary board and card games, CCGs and roleplaying, Cardiff Games is something of a staple of the gaming community in the Welsh capital. Their roleplaying selection has dwindled as of late, but anything they don't have they're usually happy to order. They have a little room downstairs that you can use when they're open to play games. They often have some board games available for you to play. (As of writing, the Cardiff Games website appears to be down.)
  • Games Workshop - 31 High Street - The face of corporate wargaming for all your Warhammer and related goodness.
  • Firestorm Games - 8a Trade Street - An independent wargaming shop offering a more varied supply of games. They also have tables you can use to meet up and have games.
  • Otaku Zoku - 17 Salisbury Road - An anime shop predominantly, but also sells a lot of other things like graphic novels, video games, wargaming stuff and roleplaying games. We have a good relationship with these guys and they're very friendly. The owner is a former member of RAWSOC and they have a table available for you to play your games.
  • Troutmark - 41-43 Castle Arcade - This second-hand bookshop is a great place to find hidden treasures in general, but also has a great selection of old RPG and wargaming books worth keeping an eye on. They also have a great selection of fantasy and sci-fi, and some of the classic Fighting Fantasy Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books.
  • Inkspot Arts & Crafts - Upper Clifton St - Obviously not a games shop, but has a great supply of arts and crafts materials that some GMs and wargamers may find useful.
  • Antics Model Shop - 11 High St - A model shop that may have things of interest to wargamers and anyone who makes use of miniatures as a place to look for materials.
  • V-Sync - 199-201 Richmond Road - Nothing to do with table-top gaming, but this internet and LAN gaming centre is likely of interest to a lot of members. Keep an eye on the forums, since some of us are likely to be using it for games such as Left 4 Dead.
