C.R.O.W.

Where does it happen?

We play in the function room at The Royal Oak, situated the corner of Broadway and Newport Road (see map, below) every Sunday from 12pm until 5-6pm. The aim is to finish by 5pm, but we still have the room if games run longer, such as for one-shot filler games that need finishing, the finale of a rotation, or if you really want to resolve a meaty section of the game.

The pub also serves hot food, including a Sunday dinner.

Getting There By Car

For people coming to the venue in a car, there is street parking not too far away, though current road works could cause slight difficulties. I used to live just around the corner, so know the area pretty well. If you are likely to be travelling by car and would like to know the best way to get there and where is good to park, I can give you some guidance and a head's up to the roadworks going on at the moment. While there is a lot of permit parking in the area, there's lots of non-permit parking to be found, as outside the Gower. This has the benefit of not requiring car park payment as with the Vulcan.

Getting There By Public Transport

For anyone relying on public transport or concerned about walking the distance in bad weather, it's situated along a main bus route. All the following buses stop near the Royal Oak: Nos. 30 (Newport), 44 (St. Mellons), 49/50 (Llanrumney) and possibly the No. 45, but you'd have to check. Fares on the Cardiff Bus is about £1.50 (£3 return). If you're needing to catch more than one bus then you'll want a Day To Go ticket for £3 which, conveniently, also covers your return journey (note that the No. 30 is typically not a Cardiff Bus). This is assuming you are travelling within Cardiff. If you are travelling in from outside of Cardiff, but still travelling by Cardiff Bus then you can get a Day To Go Plus for £4. I would, however, advise that you confirm these details for yourself if you are unsure.

The nearest train station is Queen Street, but from there you'll either need to catch a bus or walk.

Getting There By Foot

Could not be easier, though the exact route depends on from where you're starting out, so it's probably worth using Google Maps to work out your best route. Otherwise, get yourself onto Newport Road and start heading out of town. Keep going for about 20 minutes (from Queen Street Station, YMMV) and the Royal Oak is on your right when you come to the junction just after the funeral home but before you start getting to the big superstores. If you find yourself walking past Argos and lots of bed shops on your right then you've gone too far. Turn around and pay closer attention to your surroundings. At time of posting there are roadworks going on, so when you start seeing loads of traffic cones you're right on top of it.
